Research Interests

My main research focus is on applied cryptography, network security, computer security and software engineering.  Here is a list of my selected publications. My co-authors include Dr. Yvo Desmedt, Dr. Yih Huang and Dr. David Rine.

Education

Major: Information Technology
Research Focus: Network Security, Cryptography, Software Engineering

  • M.E. Dept. of Computer Science, Graduate School, University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), Beijing, China.

Major: Computer Engineering

  • B.S. University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), Hefei, China.

Major: Information Science Minor: Automation Control

Software

  1. I have implemented an object-oriented framework for threshold cryptography. This implementation differs from others in that it is algorithm and implementation independent. Two examples, DDB94 threshold RSA and GJKR96 threshold DSA, are implemented under this framework.
  2. Secure Socket Layer (SSL) proxy.
  3. A model/controller/view (MCV)-based GUI framework.
  4. Implementation of elliptic-curve cryptography.

My Quotes

  • Cryptography
"It is insufficient to protect ourselves with laws; we need to protect ourselves with mathematics." --- Bruce Schneier.

"The law does not allow me to testify on any aspect of the National Security Agency, even to the Senate Intelligence Committee
."  --- General Allen, Director of the NSA

"If the target didn't think he or she was communicating privately, they wouldn't communicate. The key to this business is actually doing what your adversary believed to be impossible."  --- NSA Director, Michael Hayden

  • Network and System Security
"If you think cryptography is the answer to your problem, then you don't know what your problem is." ---Peter G. Neumann Quoted in the New York Times

  • Software Engineering
"In theory there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice there is." --- Yogi Berra

  • Ph.D.
"A Ph.D. is one who knows everything about something and knows something about everything." --- anonymous
