Binding Instructions
These instructions are for binding a quilt with corners that are not 90
degrees.
- Make your binding. Cut strips about 2 inches wide
(depending on your desired border size). Two inches will give
you
about 1/4 inch borders.
- Piece the strips using a diagonal seam (put the two pieces
at 90
degrees right side together. Stitch from corner to corner.)
- Fold the binding in half, wrong sides together and press.
- At the starting end of the binding, press a quarter inch
under.
- Begin at the center of one side with the wrong side of the
piece
facing up and having the raw edge of the end(from step 4) facing up,
and
pin the binding from the start to the first corner.

- Sew to within 1/4 inch of the corner.
- Fold the binding up so that it is even with the next edge.
The ruler is in place for illustrative purposes.

- Fold the binding down, holding the top corner, so that a
fold is made and the binding is even with the next edge.

- Pin rest of the binding until the next corner and repeat
for all sides.

- As you approach the starting point, cut the end of the
binding so
that when you pin it, it will overlap the starting piece by a scant 1/4
inch.
- Sew the rest of the binding in place.
- Turn the project over and fold the binding from
the wrong
side to the right side. You should just overlap the original
stitching by 1/4 inch.
- Pin in place progressing to the first corner.
- At the corner, take a fold in the binding so that it forms
a nice
miter. (See picture). You may have to play with the
depth
of the fold to get the corner to come out even.

- Sew binding all around. Press carefully to make
the corners as sharp as possible.
- You're DONE!
