All assignments -- labs and research paper / project -- have to be submitted through Blackboard by the submission deadline (see syllabus and schedule for more information). All assignments have to be submitted as PDF documents, I will not accept Word or Open Office documents or plain text files. A good description on how to create PDF documents from other formats can be found here.
The term "forensics" implies that you will need to argue your case. You have to be verbose about how you reached a particular conclusion, and why you think it is the correct one. The reasoning "I am right because I found the correct answer" is not going to work in the real world, because there will not be a sample solution. You will need to convince other people that you did the right things in your investigation, so you better convice me, as well.
Both lab and homework PDF write-ups must be at least 11 pt. font with at least 1 in. margins on all sides. There must be a title page stating the class, lab/homework number, and your name, as well as a statement that the lab abides to the JMU honor code. If the assignment asks for answers to specific questions, make a separate section for each question with the question number or text as the heading. If you need to make references for the write-up, use ACM-syle citations. For all other issues, follow the instructions given with the respective assignment.
