Getting to JMU

JMU is in Harrisonburg, VA (in the Shenandoah Valley) near the intersection of I81 and State Route 33.

From New Jersey: Take Route 1 south to the Pennsylvania Turnpike west. Continue on the PA Turnpike (past Harrisburg, PA) to Carlisle at Exit 16 (which connects to I81). Then take I81 south to exit 245. While this route is about 15 miles longer than taking I95 to I66 it avoids Philadelphia, Wilmington, Baltimore and DC and is always faster.

From the Baltimore Area: Take I95 south to the Capital Beltway to I66 west to I81 south to exit 245.

From the Washington, DC Area: Take I66 west to I81 south to exit 245.

From the Richmond Area: Take I64 west to I81 north to exit 245.

Getting to King Hall (The CS/ISAT Building)

When you get off of Interstare 81 at Exit 245 you will be just south of campus.

Take Port Republic Road towards campus (i.e., "westbound") and make a right turn at the entrance to the campus (just before the lake).

All visitors to campus are required to obtain a (free) temporary parking permit. So, make a left turn just before the stadium and stop at Parking Services (located on the ground level of the Champions Drive Parking Deck). Their business hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

If you want one, a map of the campus is available on-line.

To get to the CS/ISAT building from parking servives, continue onto campus and turn right onto Carrier Dr. (at the light). Continue on Carrier Dr. as it crosses over Route 81. After you cross Route 81 you will see the CS/ISAT building.

Getting to Room 257

From the parking lot you can either:,

  • Enter building A-2 and walk all the way through it to the CS/ISAT building;
  • Enter the CS/ISAT building through the side entrance by the loading dock; or
  • Walk to the front of the CS/ISAT building, climb the concrete stairs, and use the main entrance.

The choice is up to you.

Once inside the CS/ISAT building, make your way to the second floor (using either the elevator or the stairs). Room 257 is to the right of the main entrance (as you enter the building).
