While enough of the necessary infrastructure exists to make it clear that such systems are possible, a considerable amount of scientific research needs to be done before they will become a reality. One of the primary objectives of the TIDE Center is to conduct this research.

The Center's research focuses on several specific applications, including:

• Parking information and reservation technologies;
• Transit information technologies;
• Automobile guidance and navigation technologies;
• Port management technologies; and
• Trucking, logistics and freight management technologies.

These applications have particular relevance to New Jersey but the technologies being developed are quite generic.
